Yokozuna is the AI/decker working with the Dragon that erased the team's SINs at the conclusion of the Cult Of Personality, and set up means for them to reconnect for the Prelude of Hands in the Sky.

Yokozuna's running career started with Occam's Razor with the Dragon and others, decking under the handle Uzeki and the name Wolf. He was a Saeder-Krupp plant that grew away from his controller through the combined experiences of his new group. Through circumstance he encountered a rogue AI that Occam's Razor was uniting with an otaku so that the AI may cross over into the real world, and over the coming months the AI guided Wolf through the crossing of the event horizon, total upload. Uzeki became Yokozuna (his obsession with sumo is a bit of a mystery) and he left his body behind, dormant in cryogenic suspension (his benefactor's trip in the opposite direction making it's mark), to continue in his definition of existence just past the bleeding edge.

Session 1 (3/20/08)
At the Neugenics cryo-facility, Malcom began to download the building. Gojira started making preparations to blow up the lab, while Ari found a door with the elusive letters P.E. - 01 on it and asked around for people who could open it. Malcom encountered vampire probe ICE. Make that an enemy decker. The decker belonging to Paul Williams, who was apparently under contract to preserve the Neugenics facility.

The team hightailed it home. Alex set up a datasearch for the creepy drawing of a soul-eating spirit. Ike followed Paul's lead, plumbed the depths of Neugenics, and found a Garage Door Opener to attach to the van. Gojira and Malcom got surgery, and Ari got a call with another job.

The italians are technically backing the transpacific Yakuza, and we are to facilitate a change of management on a Yakuza club with Backrooms. Beta team settled on 200,000 Nuyen, for the night of the 20th, changeover to occur at 11:00 PM. The z25 club, in Downtown Seattle. Ike let Alex borrow a sustaining focus.

Paul had the decryption algorythm to the pocket secretary delivered to the warehouse, once again demonstrating a complete knowledge of beta team's habits. And Beta Team received Paul's Objectives.

Session 2 (3/27/08)
The team spent some time going over the plan, and Ike spoke to his grandfather. Ike went high, to the roof of the club, while the subteam of Malcom and Ari circled one way, and Alex and Gojira another way. Ike attempted to go through the roof access point, using his pocket secretary as a bypass. Ike gave information on three people communicated upstairs, and two people getting horizontal. At 9:00, A&G went in first, Alex introduced himself as there for the gambling. Gojira made contact with his contact and got information on one of the primaries.

Alex and Gojira located one of the primaries, and went on recon upstairs, while Malcom and Ari kept an eye on the primary in the BTL booths from the arcade. A&G located the second primary on the first floor in the corner of the dance room. Much time was spent watching and waiting for the primary to move from the dance floor.

Alex made a move by mentioning the Akira. The Yakuza took them downstairs. Ike neuro-stunned two guards. A&G spoke to the Yakuza, and after some stammering Gojira's cover story, before Alex stunned one guard and Gojira attacked the other with cyberclaws. He hit heavily, but was thrown by his prey, despite being four times his mass. The primary almost made it into the hallway before Gojira grabbed him and made a Pez dispenser out of him. Alex, slinging stunbolts and dodging bullets,

Malcom and Ari began to implement the same plan. The guard began clearing the poker room. One of the guards was another adept with killing hands and moved faster than Ari. Ari hit him, shook him up, and gained the advantage. Gojira shot and killed the primary. A guard threw Malcom, Gojira drew his attention. Malcom backstabbed his target with the stun baton, and the adept surrendered. For 10,000 Nuyen the adept delivered the building. Ike dumpshocked the building rigger.

Session 3 (4/3/08)
The team completed the takeover of the building without incident and received payment. When Mal, Al, and Ari went home with Ike, and found Lacy on their couch. Lacy alerted them to a possible threat. The team has a new list of things they need: identities, locations, vehicles, In order to attain the cargo space necessary to do some smuggling, Ike, Lacy and Malcom went to obtain a pickup truck. Ari and Gojira engaged in some sparring while Alex worked on his spell. Malcom fast-talked the guy at the dealership, and Ike became a ricer. Lacy dropped the salesman who was asking Malcom for a license, and Ike took the other car. Lacy killed the other dealer and the two met up at the Rite-Aid.

The news was quick on the scene, and linked Malcom to Ari and Alex. The team painted the two vehicles, acquired camping gear, and met Jimmy, and began on their road trip. The team went farther south than they have ever been, and when the customers came calling, the team was waiting for them. The handoff was simple, but the team then had to get to the second point. The team camped out for the night.

In the morning, the team drove to a closer location and began to hike. They made it to beta site, a small shed in a clearing on a ridge. Gojira found a faint foot trail around one side of the clearing. Alex summoned a watcher spirit and the two of them, in astral space, and found a ward that vanished the spirit.

Alex then located the spirit, and it was angry. It attacked Alex, who defended himself. And then the spirit materealized, and the Malcom and Alex shot it up heavily. It did not appear to care, but placed a column of flame on Alex. Apparently, snowballs did the most damage to the thing. Alex was attacked a few more times and summoned some earth elementals. The fire elemental/demon escaped, and the earth elementals were told to find the spirit of the land, Chinuko. Chinuko informed Alex that Daniel Two-Ton was taken by the Old Ones to their Curators. The curators had a dispute with Daniel about territory. Daniel was argued with, fought, subdued, and kidnapped. Chinuko This is probably Mt. hood in Elven country. The team contemplated going on a wilderness hike, but decided against it for a number of reasons. The team went back to civiliation to prepare.

Session 4 (4/10/08)
Psychotic Soulless Murder machine.

Ike renegotiated with Jimmy Spoons on the issue of the Box, and established a group discount and a good deal on the Box. The team argued a bit about housing, and decided to proceed to the Tir, via ECCM and driving, (although later price quotes influenced them to go hiking.) and they met a date with Mafaer, and delivered Jimmy Spoons an extensive shopping list. They look some diesel, took their showers, and set out early the next morning.

The team made it to the edge of the Tir by early afternoon, and it was nightfall by the time they reached the border. They decided not to spend the night on the border, and pushed though. The next day, they reached The River. After some advice from Alex that Magic probably wasn't that big of a deal, Mafaer levitated the team across the river.

On the third day, the team made it to within sight of Mt. Hood, and were feeling the burn.

On the fourth day, the team came across a highway in little use but good repair, and had to approach the mountain. The team decided to get a good night's rest and used Alex's Earth elemental, who first tried to lead the team through the volcano, then over the Lava, and then, after much wheedling, around the mountain.

On the night of March 1st, there was a vehicle two kilometers out. The team prepared for meeting the heavy magical security. Alex squelched a watcher sentry spirit. He assaulted a guardian spirit. Mafaer started healing Alex, who renewed his assault. Ike went on recon towards a few trucks. It's elemental went to help, dumping Alex's body on the ground. Alex defeated the elemental, Mafaer healing him, and Alex discovered a ward that only defended against astral beings. Ike went forward.

Session 5 (4/17/08)
Into the woods
and out of the woods
and home before dark. - Steven Sondheim

Gojira showed up, and with a vehicle coming, Lacy took a shot to try to create convincing mechanical troubles and blew out a tire. Gojira and Ike were met by a female Dwarf who seemed to be expecting them, or someone. Lacy remained outside as rear guard, and the team went inside. The Earth Elemental led Malcom, Alex, Ari, and Mafaer down a tunnel of hot air. The ninjas finally encountered someone who realized they were not expected, and there was a fight. Ike stuck a ninjato into an unsuspecting elf, Gojira discovered magical protection with his boot and then went to kill the other guy. Ike went berserk. The fight over, Ike began to stabilize the lady elf.

Down-tunnel team heard footsteps. Lacy fired a non-silenced shot. Something began to attack Alex's elemental as Alex began to loot the body. Down-tunnel team was trapped by two rising walls of rock, and Ari panicked and began punching his way out. A milky black ghostly form projecting anti-light appeared in the tunnel, and began to bargain from a position of strength. And then Mafaer blew up the rock wall.

Meanwhile...

The ninjas discovered an underground cavern, lit by lava, with a summoning circle in it. Ike went down to break the circle. The ninjas successfully broke the circle, began to make their way down a side corridor, and then met a fire elemental, which they chose to try to avoid. They ran away, and then Gojira shot it in the head with an assault rifle.
...
The team met up in a bit by Gojira, and Alex was attacked by the mage. Mal and Ari opened fire with grenades, and then Malcom's grenade launcher was triggered, blowing Malcom and Ari were blown sideways. Alex said something about the mage being invisible, and Ari went full-auto and hit a blue flash with the last bullet. And again. And again, and this time Alex opened up with a stunball and Malcom opened up with his remaining gun. The earth opened up and swallowed Ari, who did his best to resist being crushed by an earth elemental. Alex and Mafaer helped and the elemental was destroyed. Ike had been climbing across the ceiling, got blown off of it, and began to engage in combat with the invisible shielded mage. The elementals told Alex that "the master is coming" and Ike continued to fight the invis-o-mage. Ari readied the fire extinguisher when Alex relayed this information. With a final stab, Ike killed the mage. The Lava Monster began to overflow the bank.

Meanwhile...

Gojira took off running. Gojira shot and killed someone with a gun who was running at him. Then Gojira found a dead troll with trinkets. Lacy saw pursuit on Gojira and took one out. Gojira began to discuss with the enemy the wisdom of not fighting him or the Lava Monster, but only one evacuated. He grenaded them with HE defensives, and then grenaded them again with a flashbang, and killed the stragglers. They found a wall of lava engulfing some of the complex staff.

The team grabbed the jeeps at the front and DTFA'd. The volcano exploded, and Malcom and Mafaer raced away. Then Malcom's jeep skid and tumbled down the mountain, 300 meters downslope before it skid to a halt.

Session 6 (4/24/08)
Mal, Gojira, and Ari slowly regained consciousness. Mafaer's car all got worried. Alex looked around in astral space and found an elemental and confirmed that Mal, Gojira, and Ari were all alive. Alex called in his fire elementals. Mal and Gojira regained consciousness. And moments later Ari did too. Ike and Lacy located a guy with an RPG aimed at the vehicle. Ari made a hole in the back of the van. The man with the RPG fired, hit the car, and launched Ari out of the back. The earth elemental that flipped the truck kept following it. The jeep on fire, Malcom tried to claw his way out from the wreckage. The Mafaer car began to drive directly down the mountain after Lacy

The crashed team: Gojira continued to deal with the sniper, Ari helped Malcom out of the vehicle. Mafaer kept going down the hill. Ari gave Malcom his Ares, but the firefight was over. Alex encountered another mage. Lacy sighted incoming, 300 meters downslope. Mafaer brought the jeep in for a hard landing, where it hit the other jeep and slid onto its side.

Alex managed to negotiate a truce with the bogeys downhill, and after a slight misunderstanding. Mafaer and Alex healed the team, and then Mal, Lacy, and Ari went up to right the jeep. After a brief discussion, they draped the food and supplies over the jeep, piled in, and headed north, avoiding highways and major roads. They made it to the river and stopped for the night.

In the morning, Mafaer levitated the team across the river. They pushed across the border and rested. The next day the reached the vehicles and drove to Daniel's cabin. The spirit of the land took Daniel Two-Tons' necklace; Ari took some of the Library at Alex's request. Some of the team had messages.

For Gojira, "retaliation has begun."
For Ari from Travis: "we have work to do" backdated by six days.
From Jo "we have huge issues" backdated 3 days.

The team delivered the box. Jimmy took the big fuck-off knife. A piece of spell defense, a piece of offensive magic, and a piece of shape-able magic. The team paid Mafaer and went home. Meeting Jo, they learned what they'd been missing in Seattle, that there was a problem with the cops, and that she was being followed. Ike, with Gojira close behind, cut off Jo's tail, a young Japanese kid and delivered it to her. A man in a towncar was waiting, and he was associated with Paul, a Mr. Johnson, and the team went to meet him. Lacy was visibly upset upon seeing him. Gojira confronted "Lacy" Anderson,

The team spends a fair amount of time in "downtime mode". Gojira and Ari go to Jo's to help heal quicker. Malcolm picks up a rating 6 bug scanner and a rating 4 signal jammer. Malcolm then goes to Jo to get his VCR installed and spends a week resting up. Ike spends his time training his firearms and so does Ari. Alex goes into hard-core research mode and upgrades a couple of his spells and learns a few he purchases. After about a week and a half everyone regroups and decide what to do. Malcolm has analyzed the Neugenics Datastore and Ike goes to the next step. The team argues for a while again about the ethics of killing Wendigo and Dietrich's reliability.

The team decides to return to Sophocles to interrogate the Spiders about the bits of information they got from the ghost girl. They learn that the girl's name is Tina and the boy's is Timmy and they are both somehow linked to the weirdness in the rim. With that information they decide to return to the rim and investigate further. While they find little evidence it does not take long before they experience more paranormal activity. The festivities include random sensor anomalies on Malcolm's whirly-bird, strange tracks in the sprinkling rain, and overly aggressive walls. The team finally returns to the van to find that at least one anomaly was not pure perception. Something unlocked the Van.

SR3.5 Decking
Introduction
Welcome to the revised set of SR3 rules used for simplified, yet expanding decking. The ultimate goal was a simpler and more consistent action resolution mechanic that still could offer a rich and varied decking experience. The following rules result in something of a compromise between the free-flowing full-world experience that SR4's AR presents with the more draconian and likely more realistic (in the case of anything sensitive) security model of SR3. The goal is to provide the decker the capacity to be an active member of the team without slowing down gameplay while empowering them to potentially still have a rich and meaningful gameplay experience. In fact in many ways this system presents the decker with expanded gameplay opportunities.

Changes from SR3
- No more utilities

- Subsystems simplified from ACIFS to ACF (Access, Control, File). Their average rating has dropped considerably.

- Active Decking skills expanded to Computers, Decking, and Programming

- The role of most persona programs changed and balanced (all are more or less equally useful now)

- IC and Agents now require a hardware component to run on.

- Security Tally has changed to a simplified implementation.

- IC and Agents now work just like a decker (they posses persona ratings, programs, and a "skill" rating).

- Smart Frames and Agents are now merged.

- TN's have been, for the most part, simplified. No more lookup tables or cryptic program descriptions.

- Host Deception/Validation has been changed significantly.

- RAS-less, wireless decking has been detailed to facilitate AR-like decking.

Operations
The list of operations has been vastly simplified, although the resolution mechanic has changed significantly. All Active Icons (Deckers, IC, Agents) all resolve their actions in the following fashion. For all operations below the term Decker can be interchanged with IC or Agent. Additionally a decker can use their hacking pool to assist with any roll.

Unresisted Operations
Scan: For this operation the Decker rolls its sensors rating in an open test. This is a complex action. This functions similar to a standard perception test with a TN equal to any other Active Icon's Evasion rating. 1 success indicates presence suspicion. 2 successes indicates presence detection. 3 successes indicates full information. So if a decker was in a host with 3 Active Icons with evasion ratings of 3, 5, 8. The decker then rolls his sensors (5), and the roll yields a 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8. The decker would know everything about the Icon with a rating 3, where it is and what it is doing and what it is doing it to. The decker would know that the Icon with the rating 5 evasion is there, but not specifically what it is doing. The decker would suspect the Icon with the rating 8 evasion is around, but would not have a lock on it. Scan tests are cumulative, meaning that in any successive test the decker would only need 1 success against the rating 5 Icon and 2 more against the rating 8 icon to have full knowledge of the Icon and its actions.

Load/Unload Program: This doesn't require a roll, just a simple action and some percentage of the Decker's I/O. If it exceeds the Decker's I/O then it is an extended action.

Jack Out: Dumpshock in all of its glory. This requires a simple action and does a fantastic amount of stun damage to the decker.

Create "one shot" Program: A Decker can use this to fabricate a "one-shot" program that the decker can use in a pinch if either they don't possess the program or don't have it loaded into active memory and don't have the time to load it for whatever reason. Creating the program is a complex action and the Decker must possess enough free Active Memory to for the program to exist. The final rating of the program cannot exceed the MPCP of the Deck. The decker rolls their Programming skill vs a TN of the program's size multiplier. The final rating of the program is equal to the total successes. The program takes up the full amount of memory equal to the normal program, but acts as though it had the "one shot" programming option, meaning it disappears out of active memory after it is used.

Resisted Operations
Deception: Deception is the operation a Decker uses to defeat a Security Access Node (SAN), typically the first Node a decker has to access to get into a new LTG/RTG and their Private variants. Deception enables the decker to sneak into the Host without a valid user credentials and is how the majority of decking occurs. The decker must roll their Decking skill vs a TN of the Host's Access rating. The Host resists using its Security Rating vs the Decker's Masking rating. The threshold for defeating a Node's authentication routine is typically 10 net successes, although this can vary in specialized systems.

Validation: Validation is another operation a Decker uses to defeat a Security Access Node (SAN), typically the first Node a decker has to access to get into a new LTG/RTG and their Private variants. Validation enables the decker to sneak into the Host by generating a set of valid user credentials and is much more difficult than Deception. The decker must roll their Decking skill vs a TN of the Host's Access rating. The Host resists using its Security Rating vs the Decker's Masking rating. The threshold for defeating a Node's authentication routine is typically 20 net successes, although this can vary in specialized systems. Validation has the advantage over Deception in that the majority of Analyze, Search, and Browse go unresisted (only in highly specialized systems will these potentially trip off alarms for a valid user). I/O, Edit, and Control operations are still resisted in the normal fashion.

Analyze: Analyze is used to get detailed information about a Host, Icon, or Active Icon. To be used on an Active Icon the decker must have already successfully "scanned" the Active Icon as per above. The Decker rolls their Computer skill vs a TN of either a Host's Access rating or the Active Icon's Evasion rating. The Host or Active Icon resists using its Security rating or Computer skill vs a TN of the Decker's Sensors. Each net success yields one piece of information about the Icon (active program, security level, datastore size, encryption level, etc etc ...). Analyze is a complex action

Search: Search is used to locate host resources (like a specific slave icon). The decker rolls their Computer skill vs a TN of a Host's Access rating. The host resists using it's Security rating vs a TN of the Decker's Sensors. Search is an extended action with a basetime specified by the GM based on the specificity of the search criteria as well as the density of the Host. Successes divide into the base time.

Browse: Browse is a specialized searched used on a Datastore or Datastream Icon. The decker rolls their Computer skill vs a TN of a Host's Files rating. The host resists using it's Security rating vs a TN of the Decker's Sensors. Browse is an extended action with a basetime specified by the GM based on the specificity of the search criteria as well as the density of the Store/Stream. Successes divide into the base time.

Edit: Edit is used by a Decker to change an Icon in a way it was not specifically intended to be. Edit cannot be used on active Icons. Edit can be used to change the appearance of an Icon (useful for graffiti-like purposes), can change the properties of an Icon (halve the speed of a datastream ), or can be used for more sinister purposes (edit a datastream from a security camera to loop an image or segment of a stream). To perform an edit the decker rolls their Programming vs a TN of the Host's Files (for file edits) or Control rating (for icon/host edits). The Host resists using its Security Rating vs a TN of the Decker's Masking. Edit is an exclusive action with a basetime specified by the GM based on the size of the edit desired. Successes divide into the basetime.

Control: Control is the sister operation to Edit used by a Decker to manipulate in Icon in a way it was designed to be. For instance you would Edit a security camera's datastream to loop an image or sequence of images. You would Control the datastream to simply disable it or reset it. Control can be used to open and close doors, manipulate security drones linked to the host, and disable datastores or datastreams. To perform a control the decker rolls their Decking vs a TN of the Host's Control rating. The Host resists using its Security Rating vs a TN of the Decker's Masking. Control is a simple action.

I/O: I/O is used by a decker to upload or download data to the file system of a Host's Datastore. It is also used to load completely new Icons or files into a Host. The decker rolls their Computer Skill vs a TN of either the Host's Files rating (for files) or Control rating (for Icons). The Host resists using Security rating vs a TN of the Decker's Masking.

Combat Operations
Attack Program: Attack programs typically have their own resolution rules but the base is the Decker rolls their Decking skill vs a TN of the Active Icon's Evasion. The Active Icons resist using their Decking vs a TN of the Attack Program's rating. Bod is used by all Active Icons to resist damage that succeeds in landing.

Defensive Program: The defensive programs all have their own resolution rules but the decker will almost always roll their Decking skills vs a TN of the Active Icon's Attack program.

Combat Maneuvers: This section isn't yet detailed.

Decking Without RAS
Deckers now have the option of using a wireless module in their deck to interface with any existing wireless hubs in their vicinity. The range of the wireless signal depends on a bunch of rules not yet invented but in general is decent enough. While it's possible for a Decker to Jack in wirelessly with their RAS enabled, there would be little advantage to this over a wired connection. Additionally for the majority of truly sensitive datastores and security grids major corporations still use wire-only access nodes. That said a large amount of logistical and security operations can be controlled through the wireless grids.

Life in 4D
Any player with a datajack and a wireless transmitter (either a headware radio or a wireless module on their cyberdeck) has the option of operating in "Enhanced Reality". For the non-decker this produces a Minority-Report like experience with easily available information about businesses they pass (menu's, specials, inventory, etc ...). For deckers who have disabled their RAS interface this presents a vast amount more potential information using the same interface. Their HUD now displays FPS-like details about their deck's persona as well as status information about loaded programs and whatnot. Additionally visible Icons are presented with whatever details their deck's sensors can pickup. Finally if the decker is under attack their UI presents them with any details they can pickup about it as well as whatever damage it's doing to the deck.

Rules
A decker now has three options for the realities they wish to possess. They can engage their RAS and go full VR. The can disable their RAS and operate using their ER HUD through their DNI connection. Or they can disable the ER HUD and go plain old 3D reality without any distractions. The following rules dictate the three options. There is no more hot/cold assist, ER is considered cold assist (decker's brain cannot be damaged), VR is considered hot assist. So the only change from SR3 is there's no potential use of Cold Assist w/ RAS, or Hot Assist w/o RAS. I've also eliminated the idea of half DNI. For both ER and VR, the decker is thought to be using full DNI. There's no keyboard, no VR gloves or suit. The only time such things are necessary is in the absence of DNI.

Plain Reality: Decker has access to basic information from their deck as if it were a PDA, but cannot actively deck. The decker uses their standard reaction and initiative.

Enhanced Reality: Decker has full access to the ER HUD. All perception and sensors tests are at +2 due to the distraction of the information overload as a percentage of the attention bandwidth is being used by the DNI connection. Decker uses physical Reaction and initiative for all actions. The decker has half hacking pool for all matrix actions. Trodes can be used in this scenario but they reduce the decker's hacking pool to 0 and add +1 to all matrix TN's.

Full VR/RAS: Decker uses Decking Initiative and Reaction. Decker has full hacking pool. All meatspace perceptions and actions are at +8. Trodes can be used instead of a datajack only the maximum level of response increase is 1 and the decker has half their effective hacking pool. Additionally with trodes users suffer a +1 to all Matrix TNs.

Agents, IC, and Frames
There is no more concept of a Smart or Dumb Frame. A smart frame from SR3 can be considered just a weak Agent in this iteration of the rules. Frames proper still exist and serve the role of Dumb Frames from SR3. Agents and IC are now no different, IC could be considered a specialized version of an Agent that's all. All three require specialized hardware to run on, although Frames are weak enough that they can piggy back on the decker's hardware if need be.

Rules ... blah blah blah. Inventing rules sucks.

Intrusion Countermeasures
It is simply far too impractical (expensive) for security systems themselves to be powerful enough to stop an intruder so it relies on powerful and expensive programs known as IC to fill in the gaps. IC is not an independant intelligence, nor is it even semi-intelligent (like a smartframe or agent). IC is simply a powerful program with a relatively short decision tree. The system chooses to activate/deactivate it and gives it enough information to start the decision tree, but from there it acts autonomously doing whatever it is programmed to do. This does not imply intelligence, but the system doesn't need to waste time controlling it.

There are two basic types of IC: Proactive and Reactive. When activated Proactive IC more or less attacks the decker in cybercombat. Reactive IC just sits there, either monitoring, tracing, or slowing down the decker. Given that, there are three more classifications of IC: White, Gray, and Black. White IC only interferes with the matrix persona of the decker. Gray IC, in addition to messing with the matrix persona can also permanently damage the decker's hardware. Black IC can do everything Gray IC can but also physically harm and/or kill the decker. The majority of reactive IC is white, while proactive IC exists for all types. Finally IC programs can receive modifications similar to a Decker's active programs.

IC Rating
----
The rating of the IC is a numerical value typically ranging from 3 - 8, although much stronger IC is potentially at the disposal of mega-corporations. The rating is typically used to determine the Target Number players will use to resist the effects of IC, although in some cases it may be used differently. Rating also determines how much Host memory the IC uses up as well as how expensive or legal it is.

White IC Subtypes
----
Probe: Probe IC is a form of reactive IC that assists the system in locating an intruder. For every system test a decker performs while in the presence of activated probe IC the GM rolls a Probe test using the IC's rating against a TN of the decker's detection factor. Every success adds one to the decker's security tally. SR3 p. 228

Scout: The proactive version of probe IC. Until the system switches into either passive or active alert Scout IC works just like Prove IC, probing a decker's actions. However once the system has gone to passive or active alert the Scout IC activates and now engages the decker in cybercombat. However, instead of doing damage with its attacks Scout IC makes other IC's attacks more effective. For every success Scout IC achieves with its attack it adds that many dice (one time bonus) to the next proactive IC to attack the character. The Matrix p. 104

Trace: Trace IC is a Proactive/Reactive hybrid and technically a gray/white IC hybrid, however Trace IC doesn't damage the decker's equipment. Trace IC servers one major purpose ... physically locating the decker so that the bad boys can be dispatched to eliminate the nuisance. It has two cycles, the hunt and the location cycles. During the hunt cycle it attacks the decker, trying to "lock-on" to his MXP. Once it has that it disappears and becomes reactive IC while it locates his physical address. The rules for Trace IC can be found in The Matrix p. 104-107.

Scramble: Reactive IC that protects aspects of a node from access. It is impossible to access the protected subsystem without defeating the IC with a decrypt system operation or attacking it in cybercombat. The decryption option is preferred since it doesn't induce any security tally. If a decker fails to succeed in his decryption attempt the IC has a chance to destroy/disable whatever it is protecting. SR3 p. 228

DataBomb: Reactive IC that is similar to scramble IC in that it protects subsystems of a node, however instead of preventing access a databomb explodes and causes damage to the decker's icon. It is very tricky to difuse and attempting to simply attack it in cybercombat causes it to explode anyhow. The Matrix p.103-104

Pavlov: Reactive IC that is a variant of the databomb. Instead of being destroyed when it explodes the Pavlov remains and can continue to damage the decker. Additionally it makes access to the protected system difficult. The Matrix p.104

Cripplers: Proactive IC that attacks one of the Decker's persona programs (Bod, Sensors, Evasion, Masking). There is a different breed of crippler for each program. SR3 p. 227-228

Tar Baby: Reactive IC that crashes programs as a decker tries to use them. If successful both the Tar Baby and the program are destroyed (removed from the decker's active memory). Security tally is not raised by this. Tar Babies are programmed to target specific programs and only react when the decker attempts to use one in it's presence. SR3 p. 228

Killer: Killer IC is proactive White IC that directly confronts the decker in cybercombat. On Blue or Green systems Killer IC does Moderate damage. On Red or Orange it does Serious.

Gray IC Subtypes
----
Rippers: Rippers IC is the gray IC version of Cripplers IC. It is proactive and attacks just like Cripplers IC. However if it reduces an Icon's attrtibute to 0 it may permanently damage that persona chip on the cyberdeck. SR3 p.229

Tar Pit: The gray IC version of a Tar Baby. However if it crashes a program it has a chance to erase all online copies the decker possesses of that program (potentially deleting it all together). SR3 p.229-230

Blaster: Blaster IC is the gray IC version of Killer IC. It is proactive and engages the decker in cybercombat. If Blaster IC crashes the decker's icon it has a chance of permanently damaging the MPCP of the decker's cyberdeck. SR3 p.228

Sparky: "Dark-gray IC" Similar to Killer IC, however if it crashes the decker's Icon it may in fact cause electroshock damage to a decker. SR3 p.229

Black IC Subtypes
----
Non-Lethal Black IC: Similar to the Killer/Blaster line of IC, except that it damages both the decker's Icon and the Decker at the same time (doing stun damage to the decker). Once the decker has been hit once he is "stuck" and jacking out becomes almost impossible. If the matrix Icon gets killed the IC gets stronger as it dominates all of his bandwidth. If the decker falls unconcious the IC gets one shot at the cyberdeck's MPCP before the connection is lost. SR3 p.230

Lethal Black IC: The same as non-lethal only it causes physical damage. SR3 p.230

Cerebropathic Black IC: Similar to non-lethal Black IC, but instead of taking one final shot at the cyberdeck the IC takes one final shot at the decker's brain. The Matrix SR3 p.107

Psychotropic Black IC: Similar to non-lethal Black IC except that each time the decker takes damage from the IC he has a chance of getting some psychotropic effect imprinted on his mind by the IC. Pretty evil drek. The Matrix p. 108

IC Programming Options
----
(these are all described in detail in The Matrix SR3 p. 85)
Armor: Reduces power of attacks by 2

Cascading IC: The IC "learns" from its mistakes and gains targetting bonuses from missing.

Expert Defense: +1 defense die/ -1 offense die per level. Max of 3

Expert Offense: +1 offense die/ -1 defense die per level. Max of 3

Optimization: Reduces memory footprint of IC.

Party IC: IC that works with other Party IC to overwhelm deckers.

Sensitive: Reduces memory footprint but the IC only functions in certain systems.

Shield: Increases TN to attack IC by 2. Defeats Chaser option, defeated by Penetration option.

Shift: Increases TN to attack IC by 2. Defeats Penetration option, defeated by Chaser option.

Trap: When the "trapped" IC is destroyed immediately calls "big brother" IC.

Hosts are the endpoints of the matrix. The host is analogous to the websites of today. Anything that can or will be done in the matrix will happen at a host. From the virtual perspective of the decker a Host appears as effective a room, or virtual space within which they can act. Hosts come in many standard varieties and a host can have within it many individual data stores, slave devices, IC constructs, or even other live users.

It is important to understand there is not necessarily a 1:1 correspondence between a host and a physical machine. Much like today's websites, you can run multiple hosts on a single computer. Even more important to note is the distributed processing nature of the matrix prohibits even trying to quantify a physical node (processor) for every logical node (host). The bottom line is by 2060 one single piece of hardware almost never represents anything you will ever see in the matrix (with the odd exception of live users who are in fact only 50% quantified by their cyberterminals and 50% quantified by whatever network they are currently "running" on). The bottom line is everything a decker will ever do occurs in a host.
In game terms being a decker typically requires a minimal investment of essence and as such deckers ofter times find themselves able to spread themselves into other archetypical roles with a fair amount of success. For instance, it is not unheard of to find a decker with reflex enhancing cyberware or a VCR.

The Street Samurai is one of the classic archetypes. Street Samurai are typically characterized by heavy cyberware usage, typically some sinister combination of speedware, senseware, and dermal armor/bone lacing. Add in a small arsenal of firearms, grenades, and body armor and you have what most people envision the street samurai as being: The ultimate 2060 killing machine. Street Samurai are often characterized as having some manner of code, or honor, to go along with the hundreds of thousands of Nuyen of hardware, but it isn't strictly necessary. Flexible morals are an asset in the biz.

Introduction
There are three sections to the datastore: the security store, the research store, and the personal store. This store served as the primary store for all data for the company. There is indication of a remote site redundant backup served by some company by the name of BitPrison. A quick search finds that BitPrison is some kind of underground non-mega (at least on the surface) distributed backup system used by small companies to try and keep their data safe from the megas. There’s no indication that it actually works but their advertising makes a good sell.

Research store
This store has obviously been wiped as of 1/16/60. What is left appears to be the followup research of the team that the team found on site. There’s lots of mention of “missing expertise” and the names Andrew, Julie, Daniel, and Sonya come up. Andrew Dyson was apparently the lead scientist of Neugenics and his partner Julie Kowalski both share several patents on RNA restructuring and analysis. It appears to be pretty mundane stuff. Daniel Yang was the Sr. Biochemist and Sonya Li was the senior Genetic Engineer. All four have no files in the research store but are referenced in various parts by other scientists as is a fifth name “Gentry”. It appears the remaining team was tasked with processing data files that were coming in at routine intervals. The nature of the work is complex (will require someone with biochemistry or science or anything to analyze). The analysis appears to be based on samples the team was receiving every couple of days that were somehow tied to the senior science team that was removed from the building.

Security store
This store is far more interesting. There are security videos and status files of everything that’s passed through the place in the last 6 months including data since the beginning of the “invasion” as well as the installation and maintenance of the drones that were brought in by the security team on 1/16/60. The date of the invasion was 12/13/59. The operational staff was removed from the facility while the scientists were detained. Paul Stevens appears to have been in charge of the invasion force even though earlier video shows him working as a functional employee of Neugenics. He is listed as the director of security and is/was a full time employee of Neugenics and had been for several years. The original invasion force left the facility on 1/16/60 with the four scientists in hand and turned over the facility to the force the party took out. Over the course of the invasion time some new face can be seen several times directing the scientists and arguing with the senior staff. More information on this will be available as the party wants to analyze it.

"looks like the security camera footage caught everything inside and out. i got the van used to shuttle data between this facility and the senior scientists... not to mention all the primaries and a pretty good indication of which team they're on" -- Ike

Personal Store
This store has personal account data for every employee. Each individual datastore is encrypted so the party will have to spend time cutting through the data to analyze whatever accounts they like.

"i've interpolated the email convo between Paul and the missing talking head... it appears they weren't in agreement over how this little soiree should go down. guess which one won..." -- Ike
The nature of the work is complex (will require someone with biochemistry or science or anything to analyze). The analysis appears to be based on samples the team was receiving every couple of days that were somehow tied to the senior science team that was removed from the building.

Security store
This store is far more interesting. There are security videos and status files of everything that’s passed through the place in the last 6 months including data since the beginning of the “invasion” as well as the installation and maintenance of the drones that were brought in by the security team on 1/16/06.

There are security videos and status files of everything that’s passed through the place in the last 6 months including data since the beginning of the “invasion” as well as the installation and maintenance of the drones that were brought in by the security team on 1/16/06.

Personal Store
This store has personal account data for every employee. Each individual datastore is encrypted so the party will have to spend time cutting through the data to analyze whatever accounts they like.

Working as a personal procurer for the wide world of "not for sale" is like second nature to a kid who one day figured out that he could walk right over pressure sensors, super mario his way between and over guards, and when worse comes to worse, knock down a plasteel secure door.
