Overview
Gojira ( ゴジラ ) is a recent addition to the shadow community of Seattle, and fulfills the role of a street samurai. He is most frequently seen in the Kingsgate region of Redmond, and is easily recognized.
Description
Gojira is a 2.5 meter tall Japanese troll (Oni), though he varies from even this rare population group. He has bright red skin, tusks that curve outward, but instead of two thin horns, he has a single, black horn growing from his forehead. There is also a slight concave dip at the top of his head. He almost entirely lacks hair - he is bald, does not grow facial hair and his eyebrows are thin and black. His phyique is bulky but muscular, and he weighs 136kg. His manner of dress is reminiscent of Yakuza gangsters of the 20th century; a fedora (with a slight notch cut into the brim to accommodate his horn), suit and tie, and a long coat. Sometimes he dons the more traditional garb of a ninja. He has the intricate tattooing indicative of membership with the Yakuza on his left arm. He is approximately 24 years of age.
Pending Warrants or Bounties
Warrant pending for Akira Kurasawa (Assault & Battery); Bally’s Pacific Rim Division (formerly owned by Yamatetsu, warrant transferred to holding company); threw a guest through a fish tank.
Warrant pending for Glen Ford (Felony A&B); Taco Bell (warrant tendered by Aztechnology); pulled arm off of manager
Bio and Background
Gojira was an orphan raised by the Black Lotus ninja clan in Hokkaido. His life up to puberty was typical for a ninja, but near his 18th year, Gojira began to goblinize. Unable to remain with the ninja, Gojira fled Hokkaido. He took a number of small jobs, none of which suited him; crew on a fishing vessel (fired, seasick), bellboy, Bally’s International, Naha, Okinawa (fled after throwing a guest through a fish tank for striking a female employee), clerk, GamePro, Hong Kong (fired, sold copy of Final Fantasy XX to customer who didn’t preorder), Clerk, Taco Bell (wholly owned subsidiary of Aztechnology, all rights reserved), New Saigon, Siam (fled after pulling the arm off of manager for sexual assault on female employee).
He eventually ended up in the Philippines, where, in desperation, he joined the local Yakuza. Up to this point, he had no name (which he viewed in terms of the old spaghetti westerns, as The Man With No Name), but when introduced to the gang boss, he said he was a ninja, whereupon the boss replied ‘if you are a ninja, so is Gojira’. For the first few years, Gojira was employed as a Breaker; the person who broke customers at Yakuza brothels for refusing to pay or being too rough with the merchandise. Eventually he was promoted, and sent out on protection missions, including against an Islamic terrorist group that had been executing local metahumans. It was in the destruction of this cell that he first killed someone. While in Manilla, Gojira also got involved with the rebel group Huk, a terrorist organization formed in the 1940’s to fight the Japanese occupation. Gojira began by simply providing them with information, but soon began to freelance with them, participating in several attacks against the JIA and Japanese megacorps. When the Yakuza command found out, they decided he had become a little too high profile, and sent him with a superior to Seattle to investigate any possible way his clan could ‘get in the action’.
Gojira is currently living in a three room apartment in the Kingsgate neighborhood of Redmond, with a forged VSIN (Visa System Identification Number) listing him as Sergio Leone, Austrailan. His native language is Japanese, and he is fluent in English. He also speaks some Spanish and Pilipino.
Gear
Gojira has few possessions. He still retains his ninja-to from his days in Hokkaido, though it has since been dikoted. Going against the traditional grain of the ninja, Gojira carries numerous firearms: an Ingram Smartgun, which he picked up from a raid on the JIA, a silenced Predator taken from a raid on a Honzo Yakuza nightclub, and a heavily modified M-23, taken from a raid on a Nugenics corporate facility. He shows an alarming propensity for hand grenades, often using his horn to pull the fuse pin. He wears a stylish long coat that matches his suit, but is a standard armored long coat in all other respects. The inner lining was purchased for its extra pockets, and Gojira carries a wide array of oddities. The ones that have so far been revealed are:
A ziplock bag of King Arthur brand white flour - he has used this to blind an opponent, to check for laser sensors, and to check an area for unseen creatures.
A bag of marbles - so far he has only used these as a gift to a waif
Cigarettes - Camel 100s; the 100 refers to the advertized claim that the tobacco is 100% organic. What Aztechnology does not mention is that the tobacco has been genetically modified to burn faster and cleaner, thus delivering the nicotine better, and using up the product faster. Gojira has used a lit cigarette as a fire starter.
Lighter - standard flick-open pocket lighter.
Can of Lighter Fluid - Gojira has used this as the starter component for arson.
KY Lubricant jelly - Gojira has used this to grease the sides of a window to reduce the sound it makes opening.
Condoms, unlubricated, small - Gojira has used these to apply the KY without getting his climbing gloves messy or leaving telltale fingerprints.
Duct Tape - a thousand and 1 uses, Gojira has used it to keep a mage from casting and Barry Finds from speaking.
Cybernetics
As Gojira has no magical talents, he has embarked on a rather extensive program of cybernetic enhancement. In addition to several treatments to boost his reflexes to the maximum that science offers in the 21st century, Gojira has also augmented his nervious system with a standard Smartlink system, and a mid-level Skillwire system linked to a datajack. His eyes have been altered to see into the infrared spectrum, and are also protected against sudden flashes, glare, or other harmful light or UV episodes. He has an internal radio system with a range of 9km. His sole offensive system is a set of cyberclaws in each hand, which he typically uses when in restricted or surprise melee situations when his ninja-to is unavailable.
Personality
Outwardly, Gojira seems to be calm, professional, sometimes very polite, and sometimes very sarcastic. Every once in a while, however, his somewhat sheltered origins show through. He is very excitable about Westerns, and will usually begin to forget the l/r difference in sentences when he starts to talk about them. He is also very, very superstitious, and dislikes most forms of magic. He is terrified of the spirit world, in particular ghosts, an artifact of several horror movies that he had seen as a child. His core personality is that of a knight-errant. He views his association with the Yakuza as one of ‘sticking up for the little guy’. Gojira has a somewhat idealized view of the ninja and the Yakuza, and tries to follow bushido. As he was never a full ninja, the supplementary philosophy of kagedo (Way of the Shadow) was never taught to him, and so the harsh reality of the ninja life never entered his world. As a metahuman, he believes the New Jersey Way is the right way for the Yakuza, but is too polite and too minor in the ranks to say so. As a Shadowrunner, he tries to personify the hard professional, and never leaves a job undone. He doesn’t really have a clue what he’s doing, but he does his best to fake it. He tends towards a more altruistic attitude towards the destitute and helpless than most Shadowrunners. He has been known to fly into uncontrollable rages when he finds particularly egregious violations of the innocent, in particular women and children. He dislikes assaulting or killing 'civilians', which he thinks of as people not involved in the shadow world, or as merely minding their own business.
Contacts
The Leader: Known only by his title, The Leader is the head of Gojira’s old ninja clan, and privately a friend. In public, The Leader has denounced Gojira, and marked him for death. In practice, however, other ninja of Clan Black Lotus have been encouraged to give Gojira a ‘fighting chance’. Gojira has contact with The Leader through virtual space, though Gojira is not always able to find or contact him.
Hiro “All Fingers” Takamura: Gojira’s superior in Seattle, and one-time associate from Manila, this Yakuza officer has the distinction of retaining all his fingers at the ripe age of 37, although the recent conflict and its results leaves this nickname in question. Hiro has not yet failed his superiors, as there are still on-going operations against Hondo and his Seattle Yakuza, but time is running short.
Carlos “Garand” Villa: A mid-level officer in the rebel movement against the Imperial Japanese, the Huk, Carlos is best known for his use of antique firearms when fighting the Japanese. As a Japanese national, Gojira is not well liked by Carlos, but their professional relationship has been beneficial to both. Carlos was an excellent source of illegal goods, and traded them for intelligence on the Japanese. While rare, Gojira would also participate in raids against the Japanese military, or more commonly, against Japanese corporations. When Gojira was reassigned to Seattle, Carlos maintained contact, with the same agreement. Goods for information, and possible help against Japanese targets.
Michiko Mazumi: While not technically a contact, Michiko is Gojira's recently aquired 'moll'. She is a Japanses girl of 19; short, pretty and has a tendency to dress in J-girl chic. She is brash by Asian standards, though rather typical for a girl raised in the barrens. She is currently working towards an MBA at Seattle Polytechnic, funded by a trust fund and her 'uncle', Johiro Tegu, owner of the Kingsgate NoodleHut #2.
